Face the facts.

There are 3 routes as to how I can get home from East Shore Hospital.

1) Walk a distance out, take 67 which will go through the whole Geylang and Lavender and pass by Rochor and down Bukit Timah. Change to 48/153/186 at the old SMU campus bus stop.

2) Walk a shorter distance out, take 966. Drop at Catholic JC and take 186/153 home.

3)Walk a shorter distance out (same bus stop as 966), take a bus to Eunos interchange. Take 93 which will pass by Eunos, Paya Lebar and down the reservior to Adam road and home.

Conclusion:
Bcos of the waiting time for the buses, all three take the same amount of time if I have to wait for bus.

BLOODY HELL. All three ways take 1 hour to get me home. Sheesh.. Take train also one hour lo.. OMG

Succulent.

Plump.
Red.
Juicy cherries to savour
As you bite.

The juices linger on your lips and tongue.
Sweet
Yet with a hint of tartness.

Yum.

After the bbq..

We, as in, Phuong, Lynnette, Yenhan and I had a bbq at Yenhan's house with all of our respective bfs...

The bbq? Was slightly a flop cos we started late and we couldn't get the fire going.. I'll do better for Ruizhi's bbq.. hahaha... I'll know what to do now to start a fire.. Just bring my bf along... ha

The more interesting part for after the bbq when we were drinking and playing Lester's naughty but nice drinking game. I can safely say that I have never imbibed so much alcohol in my life before.. Since Chong Min was sleeping cos he needs to work, the remaining 7 of us were playing the game. That's Lynnette and Lynal, Yenhan, Phuong and Jhalley, Mark and me. Mark can't drink so... between the remaining 6 of us.. we kind of polished of almost a full bottle of absolute vodka. Although we mixed it with fruit juice, if it's a 1 litre bottle, it comes up to more than 150ml of vodka which is 40% alcohol(?) for each of us. I have NEVER drank so much before.. It's interesting to get a bit of a buzz from it but I don't like the headache that I'm having now.. I sure hope Lynnette is fine.. imagine me and her drinking the same amount but for her, it's packed into a smaller package... the same goes for Yenhan and Phuong too. The amount of alcoholl you can drink is relative to your body weight so maybe I didn't get as high as them. Then again, this is my first time drinking so much so maybe it all equates out in the end.

We asked each other interesting questions through the game and learnt a lot of new things about one another. It's fun to quadruple date.. for a slack home bbq.. okok.. maybe not so slack.. ahahah... Will post some pics up when I get them.

So some of you may be asking.. why the hell am I blogging at such a god forsaken hour? instead of sleeping the alcohol away?

Well... number 1, I'm waiting for my hair to dry.. my long hair if I might emphasize here... and number 2, because I'm feeling headachy, bf tells me to drink more water so I'm drinking more water as I type..

I hope I sound coherent but I think when I wake up tomorrow, I'll notice that I'm slightly rambling..

One piece of advice for whoever's looking to get smashed... Do it at home to find out your tolerance.. or.. make sure than you are in good hands after that..

I learn today.. my alcohol tolerance is not that bad... interesting to do this once in a while.. but it's crazy to drink like this all the time.. like what's the point?

Anywae.. I've finished my entire water bottle and I'm off to replenish maybe another half bottle.. that makes it about... 600 ml of water? hahah..

byebye folks!

Food for thought..

Looking after a sick parent is a lot harder than it seems.

There are so many things to consider especially when you are dealing with a parent who has been through 2 operations in a short span of time.

There's the issue of nutrition for the parent as she needs to eat more nutritious food in order to accelerate wound healing and to regain her energy so fresh food has to be cooked for her. At the same time, most of us are often hindered by the numerous things that post-op patients cannot eat because of housewives tales. Cannot eat eggs (It will create pus), cannot eat seafood la (Will cause infection), certain type of wounds cannot take certain type of fish la, cannot eat mushrooms la for some reason for another, cannot eat chicken la because male chicken (rooster?) not good and all that kind of things.. Sometimes I really wonder about the truth of these housewives tales, but when we are trying to accelerate the wound healing process, it is better to be safer than sorry about certain things. Why test the system?

In addition to the numerous food items that she cannot eat, there is also an existing problem of food she cannot take due to her own pre-existing medical conditions. My mum has a heart problem as well as a blood problem. Her blood is slightly thick so she has to take certain medication to reduce the thickness. As a result, she cannot eat a lot of foods that contain vitamin K such as brocoli as it counter-effects the medication for her blood and heart. Green tea is out too.

If you think that is all, there's more to come. Another reason why it is difficult to cook for my mum is because the medication that she is taking makes most food taste bad. Garlic that she previously loved, tastes bitter now. She cannot eat food that is too oily or too salty so most of the time her food is porridge or bee hoon. We try to change the variation a bit by cooking macoroni or kway tiao soup for her tho. She is also becoming more fussy about food but then again, after eating steamed fish for a few weeks, you kind of get sick of it.

She doesn't eat a lot now too. At most, she takes about 5 or 6 spoons of porridge and it's enough. At least she eats ingredients with it tho so it's more filling. It's better to give her less than force her to eat more. I'm guilty to say that I have lost my temper before when I cooked for her and she didn't want to eat more than 5 or 6 spoons. How is she supposed to regain energy and heal!?? But now, I'll learnt to give her less and at least complement her when she finishes everything.

That's all about food now. I'll blog about this next time.

PLS TAKE CARE OF YOUR LOVED ONES.

Refrigerator...

After looking after my mum and cooking for her(sometimes), there are some things that I realise that have to be staples in my refrigerator or pantry..

  1. Minced meat
  2. Eggs
  3. Fresh milk
  4. Bread
  5. Fresh vegetables
  6. Tofu
  7. Rice

I'm not much of a fruit person so that's optional for me..

Meeting Siyu!

This is Siyu, the Chinese penpal who studied in Singapore until Sec 1 then migrated to Canada Toronto whom I got to know online and starting writing letters to and doesn't consider himself my penpal just because we have met twice but I don't care and still insist on calling him my penpal because he owes me letters.
